Individual Assignment 1
1. Major Characters: Lt. Henry Forester
Minor Characters: Sgt. Bromsky-Henry's commander, Billy White- Copilot of Henry's, Dan MacNamara-Henry's pilot, Fred Bennet-Henry's Navigator, Paul Sabitino- Henry's bombardier, the french teacher- helped Henry when he landed.
The minor characters affect Henry because they are his mates that can share common interest with him. If he didn't have his mates it would be very difficult to get through the war without someone to talk to.
2. I disagree with Henry's decision to try shooting at the person that was trying to cut his parachute. This was a bad decision because he wasted his only defense when he landed of the ground. It was going to be a very lucky shot if he actually hit his target. To add to his stupidity he threw the gun at the plane, so even if he did find extra .42 ammo he couldn't use it. True...did his need to survive kick in and he responded in a desperate way? Doesn't seem rational, does it?
3. This story changes my thinking because I never really heard a soldiers story about going M.I.A. during a war. It changes my thinking because there were thousands of soldiers that went M.I.A. and never came back, I wonder if Henry will make it back.
Have you found out? Does Henry make it back? Even today there are soldiers who are listed as MIA...how difficult for the families not to know what happened.

If you want an action packed, nail biting, and thrilling book then L.M. Elliott's Under a War Torn Sky is for you. Henry Forester made decisions at the last second to get away from the Nazi's, making this book suspenseful story to read. This thriller was a great read and worth the time to read it.
This book was a great read and I could tell you a lot of reasons to read this book, but I will only tell you a couple. Under a War Torn Sky kept me busy with the twisting plot line and split second decisions Henry makes. I never could be in that situation without making a slip up costing my life, but Henry had the audacity to go all out until he got back home. This book opened my eyes too, because I never knew that soldiers could take an underground rail road through enemy and ally territories to get back to their base. This book entertained me and informed me with the real World War II situations that soldiers and civilians had to face.
Before reading this I never knew that soldiers could go into a underground railroad to get back home. I thought that once they were caught they would be taken away and never seen again. I would recommend this book to middle school boys that like reading about the behind the scenes of war and what happened to soldiers that went MIA. If you start reading this book you will never put it down until it's finished.
